[If Monoma's honest with himself, he regrets taking on that lanky kid with the glasses. There were any number of better targets for his ire about the theatre club losing their costume budget in a funding cut, which will mean begging for even more handouts to get the year's play off the ground - maybe even someone who has something to do with school funding, or the theatre club, or anyone other than one of the athletes Monoma consider to be his sworn and mortal enemies. But then Tsukishima bumped into him as he brushed past in a crowded hallway, and Monoma recognized him as one of the first-years on the school's RETURN TO PAST GLORY volleyball team, and things got messy.
Like, really messy. Monoma hasn't been so thoroughly trounced in awhile, and never with his own weapons!! To find someone just as good at sniffing out weaknesses and prodding them with a casual, seemingly friendly air - and an athlete, no less - was one of the most unsettling experiences of Monoma's life. Even worse, Kendo wasn't around to drag him away, nor was Tetsutetsu nearby to intervene on his behalf. All he had was Kuroiro, who let out a harsh laugh at the scene as he passed by.
So. Now Monoma has a big ol' target on his back and a big ol' volleyball player aiming for him almost constantly. Not only that, he's got so little faith in his ability to end the rivalry with a win that he winds up approaching Tsukishima's friend for some kind of advice first. It's a mortifying admission of his own weakness!
At least Tsukishima's constant companion seems rather simple, or maybe just more docile. In any case, Monoma's lucky enough to find him alone not far from the gymnasium and decides to take that as a sign: this really is his only hope.]
Excuse me, er - it's Yamamoto, right? [Monoma's all smiles, face shining with apparent friendliness even though Yamaguchi will doubtless know better.]
for yamaguchi
