random monoma headcanon

* Monoma's an honest to god theatre kid, with a love for musicals and a decent singing voice along with his skill as a leading man. It's part of the reason he thinks in terms of protagonists and supporting characters. If he doesn't make it as a pro hero, he plans to try and become a movie star.

* (Or he did, before witnessing Mirio, Eri, and Aizawa's experiences with their quirks and helping where he could. Now he thinks he'd like to help with quirk rehabilitation and retraining following physical or emotional trauma)

* He also has a background in gymnastics since his childhood, but not as a hobby or passion discrete from his hero training: when he first started to worry about the combat efficacy of his quirk, he was advised by an early mentor that gymnastics would give him the most well-rounded strength, flexibility, and muscle control training while also helping him land on his feet and escape battle scenes when the quirk he was using wouldn't

* His favourite pro hero has always been Best Jeanist. Monoma may have cultivated an instigator persona out of necessity since he joined UA, but his childhood dream was to be a refined, soft-spoken, stylish hero who could clear the room of villains without even mussing his hairdo like Jeanist. These days he favours Hawks and (after seeing what he did for Shinsou) Eraserhead as models of what he can do as a hero, but still nurses that early crush

* He's an only child. Duh.

* His pronounced European tastes in everything from food to entertainment come from parents who have always traveled across the EU on a regular basis as part of their work (mother is a model, dad's an event promoter) and even lived in Belgium with Monoma for a short period of time before he started schooling. He can speak a few words of several different languages but isn't conversational in any but Japanese and English, though he can read French decently well

* Parents quirks: Father can absorb a single quirk at a time and keeps it until he switches to another (with limits on which he can absorb); mother has shapeshifting powers that allow her to change a few features at a time (but not totally rewrite her appearance) and can use the ability on others. Neither parent considered a career in pro heroism; they encourage Monoma's dream with the secret hope that he'll fail and choose a different path

* He's bi/pansexual but is always assumed to be gay because of his interests and self-presentation and just rolls with that for now
